HORSE FIRST INITIATIVE

about horse first

Horse First Initiative exists to stop the unnecessary physical and mental damage being done to horses by providing education in welfare-centered training, science-based equine behavior, and the tools to confidently stand up for any horse whose well-being is at risk.

our approach

We respect that public accountability has a role, but Horse First chooses a different path.

We offer an open invitation to do better, through education, support, and conscious choice.

This is about doing better, together, for the good of the horse.

our work

Horse First Initiative is reimagining what it means to truly put horses first.

From behavior-focused courses to hands-on workshops and powerful storytelling, we offer tools, support, and fresh perspectives that help equestrians challenge old norms and make horse-centered choices. every day, in every arena.

our vision

A future where horses' emotional and physical well-being is never an afterthought, but the starting point for every choice we make.

A future where doing the right thing for the horse isn’t brave, it’s the norm.

join us

In the months ahead, we’ll be counting on your support to help turn this vision into a movement that truly makes a difference for horses.

Change starts with one decision, one moment, one horse at a time.

Help us shift the focus, for the sake of the horse.

WHY HORSE FIRST?

Because horses don’t get to choose who handles them.
Because too many are pushed, misunderstood, or discarded.
Because love isn’t enough without knowledge and responsibility.
Because tradition isn’t an excuse.
Because the horse’s well-being should never come second, in training, in sport, or anywhere.
Because the animal that carries us deserves more than silence in pain.

Horse First is a call to action and a return to what matters.
It’s a shift away from ego and pressure toward conscious, compassionate partnership.

Making conscious choices that prioritize the horse’s physical and emotional well-being.

Whether you ride, train, care for, or simply love horses, you have a role to play.

Protecting horses shouldn’t be radical.
It should be the rule.

We don’t promote specific methods.
We promote values: welfare, compassion, respect.
Across disciplines. Beyond tradition. Always for the horse.
